I. Format
The tournament will consist of a single bracket stage. The bracket will be double elimination.
Every round is played Bo5, and grand finals will be played bo5 with a bracket reset.
After 32 players, players who register will be reserve to replace inactive players.
The bracket will be partially random seeded: Rankings will be made in groups of 8 (top 8, next 8, etc.). The positions within those groups will be random (so someone in the top 8 will be seeded randomly anywhere between #1 and #8). The rankings will be made either by everyone (everyone submits their rankings and the average is the final ranking), or by a select group of people if that's easier.
II. Faction Selection
Bottom player in the bracket will select a matchup, then top player will select which faction they want to play as. Next game, this will alternate: Top player picks matchup, bottom player picks faction.
Matchups cannot be repeated, but factions can be picked multiple times in different matchups. You cannot pick a matchup containing a faction that you or your opponent does not own. Mirror matchups are also not allowed.
Example:
Game 1.
Bottom player: Picks "Boii vs. Tylis"
Top player: Picks Tylis, Bottom player plays Boii.
Game 2.
Top player: Picks "Saba vs Boii"
Bottom player: Picks Boii, Top player plays Saba.
etc.
III. Rules
Max 12 infantry
Max 7 melee infantry
Max 5 same unit
Max 4 HA
Max 12 cav, elephants and chariots count as 1 cav unit, HA also count as 1 cav.
Max 1 Chariot or Elephant
No artillery or deployables.
No nomad factions (Scythia, Roxolani, Massagetae)
No controlling berserk units (ele, berserkers).
Large funds (11700)
No frenzied charge glitch. You CAN still use it when charging in to do more charge damage, but it will be obvious if you try to use it to save your unit and will result in a lost match or a replay.
Maps:
Either play on Nemetocenna (summer/spring) or agree to a different map.
Pullthrough:
Knocking down infantry with cavalry, and then moving past them, is acceptable.
Retreating with any unit AWAY FROM OPPOSING FORCE is acceptable. This means that you can retreat as long as the way your men retreat is NOT blocked by enemy units (if you are surrounded, there is no free path, so you can’t retreat).
Pullthrough with any unit on skirmishers (foot or horse) is acceptable. Pulling through with elephants and chariots is also legal.
Outside of these instances, any other form of pulling through an enemy unit is not allowed.
If you believe your opponent pulled through illegally, finish the battle, and send the replay to the moderators.
Redlining:
You may not keep your army inside of 300 m (2 slinger ranges) of the redline. If a player does so, you must give them room to move away if you want the space, but otherwise you can continue to attack. If they don’t move, screenshot your warning and then screenshot them not doing anything after a few minutes. If the situation is debatable, play out the battle, and send the replay to a moderator.
If combat is forced inside the 300m range (shooting included), then the redline rules do not apply unless the player attacking into the redline retreats out of combat and asks for space.
Attacking/Defending:
Both players are required to be attackers (make moves to engage the enemy, either by shooting or melee) with a sizable portion of their army (missile cav attacks don't count, but you can move to flank with part of your army while retreating with other parts). Kiting counts as attacking as long as you are attempting to flank or shoot when you are given sufficient space from the kite.
A player is allowed to defend if they have significant mobility disadvantages (eg. basically no cav when the enemy has cav) after a main engagement has taken place (you can't defend from the start, even if you take basically no cav or something).
Moderation and Review:
Replays from games under question will be reviewed by at least 2 people, they will agree on a decision.
Spectating and Commentaries/Steaming
Games may only be spectated if both players agree to it. If streaming live, army selection must be covered until game begins.
Please post replays on the RepublicArena discord! That way people can commentate the games
